We’ll keep it in the family again with the second release in Ashikawa’s “Wave Notation” series, his own album, Still Way. This record actually features Midori Takada on harp and vibraphone. Ashikawa only released three records in this series before he died; the third was a full LP of pensive Erik Satie pieces played on solo piano by Satsuki Shibano.
It’s worth investing time developing a melody that allows your lyrical idea to fully register with the audience. So how do you write a tune that folks can remember irrespective of the lyrics? One that you can play as well as sing, one that is immediately recognizable covered by any one of a glockenspiel band, a choir, a bagpipe, or a thumb piano?
Set up as a museum and artist-in-residence program inside a former three-story thrift store, Elsewhere is an incredible opportunity to collaborate with other residents and make use of a ton of random objects and locations. Artists spend one month working and residing on-site, creating projects that activate the living museum. Artists are asked to produce work that is highly specific to the building itself and make use of the unique environment, history, and surrounding neighborhoods. Perhaps the coolest part is that all objects and art remain a part of the museum long after your residency is over, making way for future artists to continue to transform it, and giving you the opportunity to be a part of a permanent collection.

Wait, let me back up. Actually, I did know they existed because we put one in our 2018 Holiday Gift Guide for musicians recently. But, seriously, who knew that this was actually “a thing,” and that there are literally hundreds of different coloring books out there for almost every cultural fan community? It seems today’s biggest pop stars are out there eagerly awaiting to be colored in.
A typical pedal point segment places a bass instrument repeating an ostinato or sustaining a single note against the lead instrument, moving in harmony or independent of it. In the outro of “The Chain,” this relationship is reversed, as Lindsey Buckingham’s guitar crescendos with what sounds like the open high-E string, and repeats while McVie’s bass line moves around akin to a lead guitar part.
Here are seven of the most common mistakes I see young producers make when adding reverb into their mixes, and how to prevent yourself from making them.
I’m talking about the way compression can make tracks seem like they fit together a little better. When set up correctly, it makes the whole song feel like it’s glued together in subtle ways which give it a nice, musically polished, cohesive sound. The goal with mix buss compression would be to just tame any transients that may spike up in volume just a little too much, and then bring the overall volume of the rest of the tracks up just a bit. We’re just trying to add a little more energy and fullness to the mix.
Thinking about their target listener, Fall Out Boy was successfully able to balance an aesthetic of youthful rebellion with a sound that was immediately comforting. That’s one reason The Phoenix New Times said this song “might just be the most listened-to emo track of all time.”

So you want to show off your brand new song to a record label or potential manager, or to book a string of upcoming gigs, or even your friends and family, but there isn’t a producer in sight who could do it on short notice and for less than a few grand. Well, the good thing is that this situation is exactly what Logic Pro is made for.
Megastar Ed Sheeran is no stranger to music copyright infringement cases, and unfortunately, neither is his plaintiff. In the latest claim, “the battle of the Eds,” Sheeran is being accused of copying, yet again, Marvin Gaye’s “Let’s Get It On” in “Thinking Out Loud.” He is currently being sued by two different parties: Ed Townsend’s estate (co-writer of “Let’s Get It On”) and Structured Asset Sales, who claim to own a part of Gaye’s song.
Sırma: This was my second Headliners Club session with Lisa and just like last time, it was a very productive and inspiring experience working with her. To me, Lisa is a very refreshing electronic composer, continuously flourishing…. She’s not afraid to try new techniques, she embraces technology, and she’s so open to taking direction while maintaining her musical identity at the same time. But she is new to composing with her voice, and it was really exciting to explore this new territory with her on this track. We kept her vocals in focus, from spoken-word sections to harmony and double layers and pad vocals. She went from “I don’t really sing” to making a track that revolves around her vocals. Isn’t that amazing?! She’s amazing.
Vocal effects may be added before or after you record. You can add these by using a combination of the sound effects in Logic’s library, and pressing the audio effects button.
An interval is simply the distance between two notes. We classify intervals in two ways— by quantity and by quality. Quantity tells us roughly how far apart the notes are on the scale; and quality tells us more about the unique sound of the interval or which scale it’s pulling from.
