Music scholarships for international students

Let’s start out with what a narrative is not. Your narrative is not necessarily the same thing as your biography. It is not a list of facts about your music education, when your band formed, and what awards you’ve received. And it’s not something that just lives on the bio page of your website.

Our one-on-one mentorship programs are built on our belief that accountability and guidance can have a huge impact on students reaching their goals and developing their musical identities. We currently offer 12 mentored courses and a custom mentorship program called the Headliners Club. Our mentors are passionate, experienced musicians with a shared love of personalized learning and artistic curiosity. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to us at [email protected].

+ Pursue your dreams faster with a Soundfly Mentor! Share your musical goals with us and we’ll pair you up with a professional musician, engineer, educator, or music industry veteran who will help you achieve them in a customized four-week session.

Think about how good you sound singing in the shower. That’s because of the reflections on the hard surfaces bouncing around and reverberating your voice so it sounds like there’s an effect on your voice. While you may think the reverb makes you sound like Mariah Carey, these reflections add unwanted noise and clutter when recording your podcast.

When it comes to music “now,” it all depends on who and what we’re talking about. The stuff that gets advertised on harshly illuminated screens down on L Train platforms? The bands involved in what that Pitchfork describes as “the most important stories in music?” Spotify Playlists for the gym? The Bang On a Can Allstars? Generally, I mistrust these things, because I don’t see them making any attempts to use music’s great power to snap people out of the general stupor of malaise that seems to be a symptom of living in our times.

Soundfly welcomes new voices each month to offer unique perspectives, shine a light on unexpected musical worlds, and help our readers find their sound.

Whether used by accident or on purpose, it does tend to work. If you look closely at the melody of “Sugar, We’re Goin’ Down” by Fall Out Boy, you’ll notice it places the same amount of focus on those short scale intervals. The first vocal line even sounds like a nursery rhyme, with a see-saw-style melody: D-E-F#-E-D-E-F#-E-D.

Every week, you’ll also hop on the phone or on Skype with your mentor to talk through questions you have, get feedback on your activities, or discuss your musical goals in general. These can be scheduled around whatever time works for you and your mentor.

LA On Lock is pretty much the premier place to get your Los Angeles hip-hop news. Featuring songs, mixtapes, and even hosting their own events, this blog puts LA on lockdown, but it isn’t just for those living in California — it’s for everyone and anyone who loves hip-hop. In addition to tons of interviews and features, they also host a Spotify playlist and do regular video, single, and album reviews.

Everyone has their own quintessential summer event. It might be watching the fireworks with friends on the 4th of July, or jumping into the sweet relief of a pool on that absurdly hot day. Maybe you’re still a kid at heart and it’s not really summer until you hear the ice cream truck for the first time. For me, summer was and still is all about road trips: new adventures with old friends and seeing the country from behind a windshield. I may have traded in my Firebird for a Corolla and my high school buddies for a wife and a sheltie, but as long as I have a new playlist ready, the summer road trip remains the same.

Ischi’s website welcomes visitors with a video clip of him and the chickens as soon as you enter. He also has a new song out called “The Chicken and the Egg,” but it doesn’t seem to be streamable online — although you can hear a 30-second excerpt here.
